🌼 midsummer sunshine for cold winter days 🌼 .. .. I’ve added one of my favourite flower remedies to our online shop this week ! I’m so excited to get to share it for anyone who is interested and feels called to this herbal flower oil medicine ✨ .. .. 🌼St John’s Wort Warming + Soothing Body Oil🌼 .. .. This beautiful red-gold oil has become something I use every day now. I never used body oils much in the past, just salves really, until learning a few years ago from @mythicmedicine about the healing that oiling your body can bring. It has been such a blessing to learn about this (her Medicine Stories podcast has many episodes discussing body oiling so to find out more definitely head there to learn 🧡) and it works more effectively for me than tinctures and herbal teas. So I’ve been making my own since with organic olive oil infused with the St John’s wort flowers that we gather once a year each summer. In the second slide you can see a (very real) photo taken by @lilypilllie on a hot midsummer December day, early in the morning after harvesting before the heat set in. I’m looking at the flowers like they’re my literal newborn, that’s how much I love this medicine and get excited about this one time of the year that they’re in flower ! 🌼 While still fresh, the flowers were infused to create this deeply restorative, warming and calming oil. It can be massaged on to skin in any areas holding tension, body aches or frayed nerves. We also find it works like magic when the kids are experiencing growing pains at night. It can be used as an all-over body oil after a shower or bath for soothing and protective nourishment for your skin and nervous system too. When massaged in, it is quite magical to experience the feeling of calm, warmth and revival it brings. My favourite remedy for sure on dark winter evenings. It’s such a sunny and giving flower, one of my favourites and all the more special for blooming just once a year on the summer solstice 🌼 . . #plantmagic #herbaloil #stjohnswort #folkremedy #bodyoiling

🌼Winter flowering calendula🌼 If you’re looking for something to plant in autumn to bring some brightness and warmth over the winter months, calendula is perfect - the flowers so sunny and beautiful and will bloom even when it’s so cold outside 🌼 the petals are edible (@ottimade uses them to adorn her incredible sourdough bread 💛), and the flowers have beautiful healing properties too. Their resinous scent and feel (the more resinous the variety, the more potent and medicinal) points to their ability to soothe and knit the skin back together 💛 a homemade salve is simple and so effective too- I’ll put a basic recipe in the comments, but you can find many better detailed ones if you feel called to discover more 💛 Calendula is the most sunny, kind and healing friend to have in the veggie patch or in pots, and so cheerful on dark and stormy days when all else is dormant; a reminder that even in this season of rest and quiet, there is warmth and joy to be found 🌼 And also, speaking of kindness, I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who helped me out and replied to my last post! It has given me a lot to consider and I’m so grateful to live in such a supportive and encouraging community who care about small family businesses and who help each other thrive 💛 thank you all 💛

A note on our wedding offerings and the beginning of some shifts in how we work and create 🍂 there are changes behind the scenes at the moment, slowly forming, and this is the beginning of our new and more aligned direction 🧡 So this for season and the coming ones, I will be making flowers for only a handful of weddings; creating just for those couples who are looking for magic garden blooms with elements like foliage, berries, herbs, native flowers, seedpods and wild flowers. I will be making one-of-a-kind designs, grown and made with all my love and care. If you are having wedding and would like bridal party flowers (and perhaps some table and cake arrangements too), you are so welcome to email me and we can chat wild flowers 🌼 and if your brief is right and we feel like a good match (I’m not everyone’s cup of tea and that’s totally okay!) 🍂 dahlia dividing season 🍂 I’m a little behind the times, but I’ve just started digging up some of my dahlia rows ready for storage before dividing in the springtime. There are a heap of different ways to go about it; my way definitely isn’t best practice, but it’s been the way I find easiest: I dig up the tubers, stack them in crates with the dirt still on them, then dust them off in the spring, divide them where I can see they have begun to shoot, and plant them. This isn’t a recommended method by many as 1) it takes up a lot of storage space 2) the dirt can potentially harbour damaging microbes and 3) the original tuber can rot and cause havoc for the rest of the tubers. However, it actually still is my favourite way because 1) I don’t get exhausted and freeze my hands washing them in the wintertime 2) the dirt is a good insulator to regulate the temperature and humidity for the tubers and they don’t dry out and 3) I can see easily where to divide the tubers as I’m not guessing where the good eyes are and potentially choosing the wrong one (some people are great at dividing in autumn/winter, but I find it a little tricky). Most growers have a little more sophistication, @littletriffidsflowers has an excellent explainer series in their story highlights (click through the dahlia highlight) if you’d like to see a really good alternative way 🍂 And finally- I have a few dahlia rows I won’t be replanting next season - if anyone is keen on varieties including iceberg, breannon, tropical dream and smokey downs early spring I’ll have bundles of mixed tubers available then 🍂✨

🍂 Sunday Market 🍂 The Stirling Market @stirlingmarket has reopened and we will be there this Sunday ! We are so excited to be bringing our offerings to our stall under the Druids Avenue oaks 🍂 We’ll have winter apples to press and make mulled apple juice, plus bundles of flowers, fire cider and homegrown herbal remedies too. The last few weeks and months (and in fact year) have been full of all kinds of challenges for our little family, but we are getting there bit by bit and looking forward to gathering our creative energy to make with produce from the garden and orchards. It will be wonderful to get to connect with our community again 🍂 Hope to see you there 🧡

Growing roots in the darkness in order to rise up once again.. nourishing and hearing my shadows in the mud and roots, deeply examining how to decolonise each part of how I’ve been showing up in the world. So that when it is time to bloom, the fragmented parts of the soul are back and present to listen to and support others. And we all can do what we are truly here for. The longest night of the year approaches, the most potent time to rest and gather ourselves back in to do this work. Can you feel it?.. 🌙 flower medicine making 🌙 . . one of my greatest joys of the last warm months of the growing season has been making more flower and herb remedies from the garden, while the sun was still glowing and all the resinous healing plants were ready for harvest. From those summer blooms and leaves there is a new batch handsalve in our online shop for those of you in need of some soothing and restorative love for your hardworking hands 🧡 .. I have also listed some St John’s wort oil which is deeply warming and restorative, and which I’m so excited to share from our midsummer batch- and which really deserves a post of its own, coming soon 🌼🌼🌼 .. Pictured here is some of the white yarrow we grew this year that has been infused into the handsalve, and which works wonders on cuts and sore hands... but, it doesn’t however help with clean nails; I just noticed that you can see the dirt under my thumbnail in this photo ! It’s a rare day that there isn’t earth there actually- is it just me or do other gardeners also go about their days like this? I’d be so curious to know ☺️🧡

Autumn flowers under autumn oak leaves 🍂 . . We harvested blue gum, strawflowers, proteas, chrysanthemums, wattle and spirea today to make up our bundles of seasonal flowers 🧡 there are also some sneaky dahlias and zinnias in some of them too, because often just when I think they’re all completely done a few more open up despite even the hail 🧡🍂 and if you find a bunch with what looks like tiny, not very exciting strawflowers, you’ll actually notice them unfurl once they’re back in the dry or on a windowsill- little sunny blooms that are so beautiful to watch open in the warmth 🧡🌼

Autumn flowering ranunculus ! ✨ what unexpected treasures to find in the garden this week 💕

Bundles of flowers a year in the making 🍂 Zinnias, strawflowers, globe amaranth, dahlias and more; last autumn we prepped beds for them, planted each tiny seedling out in the spring, tended and protected them over the summer and then harvested this week to bring you flowers for today 🧡 We have a handful of bunches available this morning at the roadside stall from 10, 30-$80 🍂 Beautifully photographed by Jordan of @thistleandwhey 🧡

🍂 mother’s day flowers 🍂 . . over the last few days we have been busy harvesting and foraging and gathering all kinds of botanical treasures to bring you flower bundles that will be available at the roadside stall this weekend 🍂🍁🌾 from around 10am Friday, Saturday and Sunday we will have flowers out 🍂 Thank you all so much for your support and if you are thinking of braving the weekend rain and coming by, I hope you see you there 🧡

Some of my very favourite new-to-us flowers from this beautiful past season - Aztec sunset zinnias from @lisaperhat Jardin de Fleur seeds, raised for me to seedlings by @lilypilllie (their bicolour petals make me so happy!), lisianthus apricot corelli and deep burgundy Ivanetti ball dahlias 🧡 So many more on my wish list for next season too, but if I can grow ones like these again I’ll be more than content 🥰🧡🌷

Before the rain began we spent two days working in the patch, giving some care to the garden beds - weeding, bed prep, deadheading the flowers and trying to come up with a planting plan - all the behind the scenes work that is so vital, but which I often forget to document and explain as I’m so immersed in the task in that moment (or occasionally just overwhelmed by the sheer number of weeds and jobs on my list that I’m not yet even close to starting).. . 🌿at the end of the second day though I got to harvest the herbs that were ready in a bed prepped last September; calendula, mugwort and yarrow; a welcome reminder of the amazing gifts that a tended and cared for patch of land gives back 🌿 it’s hard going at first but so worth it, so if you’ve started a garden and it’s not looking like much yet or feels like too much work, keep going if you can ; the abundance you receive in return is often overwhelming in its generosity 🌿🌼🧡
